A cave is usually associated with a
vacation full of adrenalin. When we hear someone “dive in” through a cave, our
mind may be creating an image of some people wearing ropes for safety with
headlamps for lighting to enjoy the nuance of a cave. It must be terrifying for
some people, isn't it? How about enjoying caves in a fun way? Is that even
possible? Well, yes, it is more than possible. Jatijajar Cave is designed for
tourists to enjoy the nuance of a cave in a fun and safe way. No need to worry
about your lives; everything is well prepared!
To get to the cave, we first need to
reach Kebumen Regency. You may book a train seat at Kebumen Train Station, then
continue to Jatijajar Cave by vehicle, or you may directly use your vehicle
from your home. To be precise, this cave is located at Jatijajar Village in the
Ayah District. From the train station, it will take an hour to reach the cave
by car. If you love to challenge yourself, you can also walk from the station
for 7 hours to reach it. Well, it is definitely a joke. But kudos if you want to
do it! Anyway, the location already exists on Google Maps, so your worry about
getting lost should not be an obstacle to enjoying Jatijajar Cave.
To enter the cave, you need to purchase an entrance ticket. There are two
categories available: adults and kids. For adults, the ticket will be IDR
12.000 for weekdays and IDR 13.000 on weekends. For kids, it will cost IDR
5,000 on weekdays and IDR 6,000 on weekends. Remind yourself that this tourist
spot is open at 07.30 AM and will be closed at 04.00 PM every day.
By purchasing that very affordable
ticket, you can enjoy the cave, breathe through the mild air, discover the
beauty of stalactites and stalagmites, and also listen to the legend that speaks
to you. I am not trying to be mystical, but this cave is not just a tourist
destination! You will find some statues of the characters that existed in the
folklore related to the Jatijajar Cave. Moreover, this cave has seven sendang
(springs). The famous one is Sendang Kantil. It is believed that the water from
Sendang Kantil will bring luck to our lives. There is also Sendang Mawar, which
is believed to offer eternal beauty. As the legend, the springs add a
more natural feel through their gurgling sounds.
Exploring the cave will take several
minutes, and the tour guide will give you plenty of time to capture your moment
in the cave. Your trip will be enjoyable since the cave is equipped with a
lamp, stairs, and a banister.
When you have finished exploring the
cave, your next step is to explore the craft stalls available along the way.
The stalls offer cute and colorful bags, beaded bracelets, batik clothes, jars,
wooden ornaments, and even mortar! You did not read it wrong. Mortar from
Kebumen is high quality. Mothers love to bring mortar home after visiting this
cave. If you are more interested in food, some stalls offer Indonesian snacks at affordable prices, you can also try pecel mendoan,
a dish consisting of vegetables and tempeh that is fried with flour and served
with peanut sauce. Plus, you can challenge your skill at bargaining here. What
are you waiting for? Let’s pack your bag to enjoy a healthy, funny, and yummy
vacation at Jatijajar Cave!
